Hey everyone! We hope you’re having a wonderful week so far!
Yesterday UH AITP had the pleasure of hosting Amerishore to our 4th General Meeting of the spring semester. Amerishore is a subsidiary of the business technology solutions company Neudesic, and its goal is to train young professionals and expose them to the world of technology consulting through its hands-on internships. If you are a sophomore or a junior (or perhaps a senior that will still be going to school after graduation), Amerishore might be the perfect opportunity for you! If you are interested, please email us your resume and we will forward it on to them.
Earlier today during lunch, the AITP Houston Chapter held their first CIO Collaboration Series Event of the year at Maggiano’s. If you have never been to one of these events, they are a great way to network with professionals in the field. They also give you the chance to meet with the CIOs of various companies (which is a rare treat since they are often extremely busy).
Speaking of AITP Houston, they are giving away multiple scholarships, and the deadline is fast approaching! Criteria to qualify for the scholarship include:
- A declared computer science/CIS/MIS/IT major with an overall and major GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
- A student who has satisfactorily completed at least one full semester of college
- Enrolled as a full-time (9 semester hours or equivalent) undergraduate or graduate student (9 semester hours or equivalent) in one of the AITP student chapters in the Houston Metro.
- An AITP student member.
The application is available on the UH AITP weekly email blast. Make sure to have your applications in by April 6th (in two weeks)!
Coming up, the College of Technology will be having its annual Grill Fest out in the Technology Annex-East Courtyard on Thursday, April 3rd, from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM. There will be burgers (and veggie burgers), hot dogs, snacks, drinks, and networking!
Also coming up, UH AITP will be having its first Spring Mixer on Tuesday, April 8th, from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the University Center Ballroom (UC 565). Come out and network with companies like Ergos Technology, Server Monkey, MRE Consulting, KBM Group, Schneider Electric, Marathon Oil, and more! Get the edge by letting companies companies know who you are beforehand! Submit your resume to the UH AITP website and we will make them available to the companies before the mixer.
That’s all the news we have for today, have a wonderful rest of the week and hope to see you out at the events!
We hope you’ve been having a wonderful Spring Break! We have a lot in store for you when you get back, and we’d love for you to come out and join us.
Are you a skilled baker or have the time to whip up a batch up cupcakes or cookies? This coming Wednesday, March 19, UH AITP will be holding another bake sale in the College of Technology breezeway, and we need help making baked goods to sell. Come by between 10am – 3pm and get some treats and drinks to hold you between classes. Better yet, if you have free time come help out! Please let us know if you plan on bringing anything or volunteering with the table by registering at http://go.aitpuh.com/bake.
Later that evening we’ll also be having an anti-malware workshop from 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM in T1, Room 101 hosted by Simon Mendoza. He will be doing a live demonstration on how to go about cleaning an infected computer using Malwarebytes and other tools.
Hope to see you all next week, and have a wonderful rest of Spring Break!
